US Imposes New Sanctions on Iran and Nine Other Countries Over Alleged Support for Russia
The United States has enacted new sanctions against Iran and nine other countries for allegedly aiding Russia’s military efforts amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, reports 24brussels.
The sanctions, announced by the US Department of Commerce, will take effect on September 16, targeting entities based in Iran, Russia, China, India, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and Taiwan. The blacklist includes one Iranian firm, 23 Chinese companies, and individual entities from India, Singapore, and Taiwan, along with several businesses in Turkey and Russia. Washington claims these firms have facilitated Russia’s military operations by re-exporting US-origin goods without necessary licenses.
The Commerce Department stated, “These companies act against the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States.” Consequently, the sanctions will restrict these entities’ access to US goods and technology.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the US has consistently tightened its sanctions regime in an effort to impede Moscow’s access to crucial technology and supply chains. The most recent measures are aimed at closing loopholes that allow third countries to assist Russia through unobstructed channels.
In response, Iran has vehemently rejected allegations from the US and its allies that its drones are being utilized by Russia in the Ukraine conflict. Tehran maintains that it has never supplied weapons to either side and continues to advocate for a diplomatic resolution to the war.
These sanctions follow previous announcements by US President Donald Trump regarding additional measures against Russia, which include actions targeting banks and oil exports. Amid ongoing tensions and stalled peace negotiations, the US has reiterated its commitment to hindering Iran’s supposed support for Russia’s military operations, particularly concerning missile and drone supplies—claims that Tehran categorically denies.
