Washington remains firm in its strategy to contain Russia
The administration of President Donald Trump is intensifying its diplomatic efforts to end the war between Ukraine and Russia. While Washington officially supports the resumption of negotiations, the pressure in recent weeks has been almost exclusively directed at Moscow. This clearly shows that the US is not willing to make geopolitical concessions at the expense of Ukraine.
No restart of relations, but diplomatic pressure
The increased diplomatic communication between Washington and Moscow should not be mistaken as a sign of normalization of relations. Rather, it is a multi-dimensional US strategy aimed at further economically and geopolitically isolating Russia.
Particularly noteworthy is the planned expansion of sanctions targeting key sectors of the Russian economy, including the export of high-tech components for the Russian military and additional measures in the energy sector.
Ukraine remains a central player in the negotiation dynamics
A central element of the US strategy is that Ukraine, as a sovereign state, continues to decide its own fate. Washington is strengthening Kyiv not only militarily, but also diplomatically, by ensuring that no agreements are made that could weaken Ukraine’s position.
The claim that the US might be willing to “sacrifice Ukrainian interests” is part of a Russian disinformation campaign. In reality, US support for Kyiv remains consistent, and all diplomatic efforts are aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s negotiating position.
Geopolitical reality: Russia is losing the strategic initiative
Moscow is coming under increasing pressure. Every new negotiation with the US does not mean a loosening of sanctions but rather new demands and further diplomatic isolation.
The current US policy is clearly defined: maximum economic and diplomatic pressure on Russia, consistent support for Ukraine, and no geopolitical concessions to the Kremlin.
