FM Yvan Gil denounces Washington’s lies and reaffirms Latin America as a Peace Zone.
On Monday, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil addressed a special meeting of foreign ministers from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), held on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, regarding U.S. military presence in the region, reports 24brussels.
During the meeting, Gil expressed gratitude to CELAC member countries for their recent statement affirming Latin America and the Caribbean as a “Zone of Peace.” He also condemned the U.S. military deployment in the Caribbean Sea, asserting it contributes to potential regional destabilization.
Gil stated, “The deployment is based on a great lie, built on the pretext of combating drug trafficking and falsely accusing Venezuela of facilitating these routes.” He highlighted previously presented UN reports declaring Venezuela free of drug production and trafficking.
He emphasized that 87% of drugs heading to the U.S. transit through the Pacific Ocean, a fact corroborated by U.S. agencies like the DEA and the State Department. “That shows the great lie being woven about Venezuela, used as an argument to threaten the Zone of Peace,” he pointed out.
Gil underscored, “We have chosen peace. Between Venezuela and the United States, what exists is aggression from the north against a sovereign country. This meeting calls us to take a step forward and seek peace above any differences we may have.”
