Venezuela Condemns U.S. Reward for Maduro’s Arrest as Violative of Sovereignty
Venezuela’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab has sharply criticized the recent US$50 million reward proposed by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, aimed at securing information leading to the apprehension of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Saab described the offer as “grotesque and infamous,” asserting that it represents a direct assault on both international law and Venezuela’s sovereignty, reports 24brussels.
Saab condemned the U.S. approach as a continuation of colonial practices, stating, “This infamy constitutes a flagrant violation of international law, an attack on our sovereignty, and a gross intrusion into the internal affairs of a sovereign state.” He characterized the actions of the U.S. as part of a wider psychological warfare campaign designed to appease the Venezuelan far-right and destabilize the nation amidst a complex political landscape.
Addressing claims that Maduro is linked to criminal organizations such as the Aragua Train and the Sinaloa Cartel, Saab labeled these allegations as both defamatory and unfounded. “To attempt to link the Venezuelan president with criminal organizations is not only a vile slander, but a desperate attempt to build an artificial case that does not withstand even the most basic technical, legal, or serious scrutiny,” he remarked.
Saab emphasized that despite external narratives, the Venezuelan state has aggressively pursued policies against organized crime and drug trafficking under Maduro’s leadership. “There is an irrefutable truth: The Venezuelan state has pursued a firm, sustained, and effective policy against organized crime,” he insisted.
President Maduro recently accused the Trump administration of orchestrating a “fascist conspiracy” against Venezuela. In response to Bondi’s unfounded assertion, he urged Bolivarian civil and military authorities to enhance their strategies to ensure national peace and security, furthering claims of external threats to Venezuela’s democracy.
“Our homeland will not bow down. Our dignity is not for sale,” Saab concluded, reinforcing the commitment of the Public Ministry to uphold justice and constitutional integrity against attempts to destabilize the nation.
