The ‘I Enlist’ Drive Signals Venezuela’s Defiance Against Foreign Pressure

On August 22-24, 2025, Venezuela witnessed a significant mobilization as President Nicolas Maduro initiated the “I Enlist” campaign, encouraging citizens to join the Bolivarian Militia in response to perceived U.S. aggression, reports 24brussels.

The nationwide initiative saw widespread participation as thousands rallied under the slogan, emphasizing unity and resilience among Venezuelans. This mobilization serves to counteract foreign narratives presenting Venezuela as divided or weakened.

The campaign demonstrated the importance of community structures, including communes and youth organizations, in asserting Venezuela’s sovereignty. “No empire will dictate our destiny,” declared students from the National Experimental University of Security in La Guaira, reinforcing their commitment to national defense.

The text from the tweet reads, “Attention: From Friday 22 to Sunday 24, President Nicolas Maduro activated national military enlistment as a firm response to U.S. aggression. Since January 23, Caracas has called up militia members and reservists for the Simon Bolivar Plan. Why? To strengthen the FANB, the backbone of peace. What are we seeking? Unity, defense, and sovereignty. Where? Nationwide! Who? Everyone! I enlist with firmness and dignity.”

In the state of Cojedes, health workers and women actively joined the enlistment drive, asserting their commitment to defending their nation’s integrity. President Maduro, as commander-in-chief of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), had previously urged the population to enlist, emphasizing their role on the “front line in defense of sovereignty and national peace.”

The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) echoed this sentiment, stating, “The people remain united and sovereign in defense of our homeland,” and encouraged broader public participation in the enlistment activities held in various Bolivar squares nationwide.

This mobilization event is part of the Simon Bolivar Grand National Plan for Sovereignty and Peace, which aims to fortify national unity and defense amid ongoing tensions with foreign adversaries.
