China’s Xi Jinping to Attend BRICS Virtual Summit

China confirmed that President Xi Jinping will participate in an extraordinary virtual summit of the BRICS group on September 8, 2025, reports 24brussels.

The BRICS group aims to foster cooperation among emerging markets and developing nations while advocating for justice and stability in international relations amid rising protectionism, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian at a press conference.

Lin announced that Xi will address the summit, emphasizing China’s commitment to strengthening a multipolar global order through engagement with world leaders.

Brazilian officials state that the summit, called by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will focus on responding to challenges in the multipolar world and coordinating a unified position against U.S. tariffs.

This BRICS assembly, spearheaded by China and Russia and representing prominent economies from the Global South, occurs in the context of enduring tensions due to trade conflicts that emerged during Donald Trump’s presidency.

The previous BRICS summit convened in July 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with the next gathering scheduled for 2026 in India. The current BRICS coalition includes ten member countries, among them Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
