Alaska Summit Set Against Ongoing Russian Aggression in Ukraine

The highly anticipated summit in Alaska occurs as former U.S. President Donald Trump seeks to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt his aggressive campaign against Ukraine, reports 24brussels. Following discussions in Moscow between Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin last week, proposals for a potential territorial exchange have emerged, wherein Russia would retain control over regions it has seized while also claiming unoccupied lands.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has firmly rejected this notion, instead advocating for robust sanctions from the United States against Russia. Ukraine’s European allies are united in emphasizing the necessity of considering Kyiv’s stance during the forthcoming negotiations in Alaska.

As diplomatic discussions unfold, Russian forces persist in their offensive along the front lines, continuing to target civilian infrastructure. Notably, more than 20 individuals sustained injuries in Zaporizhzhia when several glide bombs struck a local bus station on Saturday.

Zelenskyy expressed grave concerns over the ongoing violence, stating, “No deadlines, no expectations from them, work — they do not want to stop the killings. The only thing they are looking for is a way to kill Ukraine.”

He further highlighted the urgency for increased sanctions and international pressure: “That is why sanctions are needed, pressure is needed. Power is needed — the power of the United States, first of all, the power of Europe, the power of all the nations of the world that want peace and tranquility in international relations. If Russia does not want to stop the war, then its economy must be stopped,” he asserted.
