Film Fest Gent has announced a new award: the WSAward for Belgian Film Composer of the Year. The prize will be given for the first time on 15 October, during the 25th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, and aims to highlight the work of Belgian film composers.

The aim of the new award is to use the international platform of the World Soundtrack Awards to raise the profile of Belgian talent. It will be awarded to the best original film score composed by a Belgian national in the past year. The winner will receive 2,500 euros, sponsored by Sabam, the Belgian association for authors, composers and publishers.

The competition opens on 15 April and closes on 15 June. Original scores for films released between 16 June 2024 and 15 June 2025 are eligible and only composers with Belgian nationality can apply. A jury composed of Belgian members of the World Soundtrack Academy will select the winner after a round of voting.

The nominees will be announced at the beginning of September. The WSA Film Music Days, with lectures and panel discussions, will take place from 14-16 October as part of Film Fest Gent.
